Whew!
- Taxi to Worthing train station
- Train to Haywards Heath
- Train to St. Pancras
- Train to Dover
- Taxi to the ferry
- Ferry to Calais
- Train to Dunkirk
- Train to Lille
Crossing the English Channel can be horrific but our journey was great. The white cliffs of Dover gleamed in the sunshine.

The Dunkirk war museum was quite emotional. The British Navy and private citizens on fishing boats saved over 330,000 lives between May 26 and June 4, 1940. The 2017 movie, Dunkirk, is well worth watching.

On a nearby hill, poppies grow where you can see the beach in the background.

On day 4 (Saturday) we moved on to a French town called Lille where we learned two valuable lessons. Firstly, winging it is fine…but not on weekends (Jules!) 😁, and Dan really doesn’t like smelly French cheeses 🤢🤢🤢
We also learned that the prices here in France are shocking! We are realizing that there is an ‘ignorant person’ and ‘non French speaker’ tax added to prices 😳 Also, spaces (and towels) are smaller in Europe…
