The Adventure Begins…

Day 0

Today our adventure begins with a flight to Heathrow airport. I’ve been thinking nostalgically about the last time I backpacked around Europe [38 years ago, at the age of 26] and suspect things will be very different. In fact, I’ve already noticed some differences:

  1. THEN my backpack was big and my clothes small. NOW my backpack is small and my clothes big!
  2. THEN I took one pair of shoes. NOW I must take multiple, sturdy orthotic shoes!
  3. THEN I needed only thyroid tablets. NOW I need a pharmacy of potions, lotions, and pills!

BUT it’s not all bad because THEN I had to carry a camera with different lenses whereas NOW my compact phone will do it all…and more! Also, whereas THEN I took my guitar, NOW I’m taking my computer which is much more entertaining than me and my guitar!

The following two photos highlight the differences between THEN and NOW…this journey will be interesting.

      Ha ha ha 😂 Not quite that organized BUT we’re on the train on the way there! I’m seeing lots of things I’d like to buy but can’t as I can’t carry another ounce! There’s nothing like backpacking to see the world…and to feel every year of your age 😂
