Days 102 thru 105

(Dan’s comments are italicized)

What a change of pace!

Currently, our days consist of waking up naturally, doing a word puzzle together then going for a long walk on the beach before sauntering to our favorite little Bohemian restaurant for lunch. After lunch, we walk to a couple of street vendors to buy a load of fruit (usually two tangerines, two bananas, three apples, and a couple of oranges…all for under $2). Then, it’s back ‘home’ to read, catch up with world news etc. whilst looking out to sea, listening to the waves, and enjoying the sea breeze…all from the comfort of our own couch. We feel extremely fortunate to be living this way, albeit only for a couple of weeks.

This photo was taken whilst sitting on our couch! It feels like being on a cruise ship, but without the bobbing about (says she who has never been on a cruise so really doesn’t have a clue!)

The beach is beautiful and one could walk for miles and miles in either direction.

However, in one of the directions we can only walk about two miles…not because we run out of beach, but because we run out of country! Saying that the border post is low-key is putting it mildly…

…but, as we currently don’t have a valid S African visa nor the cash to pay the entry fee, we turn around and walk back.
The beach continues to stretch out as far as the eye can see but, as it’s S Africa, we dare not go there.
As a younger man, I would have risked crossing over into South Africa, but these days, I refrain from such risky behavior 🤪

In addition to the local vendors who walk the beach, we sometimes catch a glimpse of others working, such as:

Women collecting cockles/mussels? during low tide.
Marine Enforcement Officers (I may have made up that title) who check that fishermen don’t catch more tuna (and other fish) than they’re allowed.

After a few days of not being able to tear eyes away from the blue hues of the sea and sky, one starts to notice other beautiful colors along the beach.

We posted these shells previously; the purple is beautiful…
… especially when supplemented by a vivid green under the backdrop of the most perfect blue!

And if one cares to look, there are exceptional colors in tiny pieces of shells and seaweed that are cast asunder by the tides.

I desperately wanted to place these items to make a picture, but I try to make my weird photos as authentic as possible by not interfering.

One of my favorite things to do is to find ‘paintings’ created by the ebbing tide and wet sand. These creations make me feel like an artist…though it’s Mother Nature, not I, who is the artist!

Sometimes, changing the perspective totally changes the picture…
This sort of thing really fascinates me!
This was my attempt at capturing the same art.

As I proved last year in Capetown, I love crashing waves. Even though the ones here are much smaller, I think they’re still amazing.

When you zoom in, you get something that I think is magical.
This makes me think of an ocean version of Starry Night! This is what happens inside my relaxed brain!!!!

While Rhia was walking on the sand capturing the waves crashing onto the shore, I was busy visiting the many tidal pools left during low tide.

I also spent time taking the high road around the cape during high tide.

I was barefoot during this journey, so got stopped at this point by the extremely sharp rocks.

And herein ends the journey into my weird brain that seems to get weirder when I’m relaxed (just imagine what it would be like in there if I were to become a drinker! 😵‍💫)

We have another week here so perhaps I should apologize in advance for whatever weirdness comes out of my brain in the upcoming days 😂
